Terms of Service

Welcome to piel. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the piel mobile app and website (together, the "Service"). In these Terms, "piel," "we," and "us" refer to the team behind the app. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. piel is not a medical device

This is the most important thing on this page. piel is a wellness journal designed to help you track your skin and your habits. piel is not a medical device, not a diagnostic tool, and not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

The skin scores, summaries, and recommendations piel provides are informational and based on AI analysis. They are not clinical assessments. Always consult a board-certified dermatologist for medical concerns about your skin. Never disregard or delay seeking medical advice because of something you read in piel.

If you think you have a medical emergency, call your doctor or local emergency services immediately.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use piel. If you're between 13 and the age of majority in your jurisdiction, a parent or guardian must agree to these Terms on your behalf. If you're using piel on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

3. Your account

You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for everything that happens under your account. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access at support@joinpiel.com.

4. Subscriptions and free trial

piel offers a 14-day free trial. After the trial, continued use of the Service requires a paid subscription ("piel Pro"). Subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store and managed by Apple. You can cancel anytime from your Apple Subscriptions settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

Refund requests are handled by Apple under their App Store terms. piel does not directly process payments and cannot issue refunds independently.

Prices may change. We'll notify you in advance of any price changes that affect you, and you can cancel before the change takes effect.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms
• Upload images of anyone other than yourself without their consent
• Upload content that is sexual, violent, hateful, or otherwise inappropriate
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the Service
• Scrape or systematically extract data from piel
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
• Impersonate others or misrepresent your identity
• Use the Service to develop a competing product
• Bypass any security or rate limits

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.

6. Your content

You retain all rights to the content you upload to piel — your selfies, your journal entries, your routines, your data. By using the Service, you grant piel a limited license to store, process, and analyze your content solely to provide the Service to you.

We do not claim ownership of your content. We do not use it to train AI models. We do not share it with advertisers. See our Privacy Policy for details.

7. Community features

piel may include community features (groups, posts, comments). When you post in a community, you're responsible for what you share. Be respectful. No medical advice. No promoting unproven treatments. We may remove content or accounts that violate community guidelines.

8. Intellectual property

The Service, including its design, code, brand assets, and original content, is owned by piel and protected by copyright and trademark laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without our written permission.

9. Third-party services

piel integrates with third-party services including Apple App Store, Apple HealthKit, Supabase, OpenAI, RevenueCat, and PostHog. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. piel is not responsible for the practices of third parties.

10. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT THE SKIN ANALYSIS WILL BE ACCURATE OR APPLICABLE TO YOUR INDIVIDUAL HEALTH SITUATION.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PIEL WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless piel from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the Service or your violation of these Terms.

13. Termination

You can stop using piel and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (e.g., intellectual property, disclaimers, limitations of liability) will continue to apply.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict of laws principles. Any dispute will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
